This is a "must stop" location. Plan to spend the better part of your day here. Coming here is like a time machine that takes you back 50, 75, or 100 years. You get to see everything just as it was from streetcars to agriculture, fire apparatus, trucks-you name it and it's here. Probably several models of it. Everything is meticulously restored or preserved in working order. The static displays: sawmill, blacksmith, power plant, etc. are amazing.

A place of living history. There are museums of trucks, cars, firefighter equipment, logging equipment, stationary engines, and lots of tractors. The Great Oregon Steam Up is the biggest event of the year, happening on the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August.

This place really comes to life every summer for their annual "Steam-Up". People from all-over bring their restored equipment for live display. I plan my summer around this event. It takes place the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August. I'm there all 4 days and never feel like I've seen it all.

There are a about 1000 antique steam engines that are working

The flour for the pancakes is milled by a steam powered flour mill.

14 museums.

Excellent Farmer's breakfast served by Salem Kiwanis Club

The steam up is a massive and interesting event if you can make it. Definitely worth the trip.

3 pancakes, 2 eggs, ham, coffee or juice.

The ice cream made by steam power is delicious.

I highly recommend this Museum. Even though we visited in what I would consider the off-season the manager / greeter was extremely helpful. He called ahead to make sure that several exhibits were open or available and checked on us throughout our tour we virtually had the place to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed it. We plan on going back next year for at least one of their activities. Thank you!
